H E N G R A V E H A L L

As the main venue for our wedding, Hengrave Hall is Suffolks premier wedding venue, A Grade 1* listed Tudor mansion, nestled within 350 acres of formal gardens, orchards and picturesque countryside. It has been lovingly restored, complete with its own private church steps away from the main house, providing, we hope, the most romantic wedding with all our relatives and friends together.

Over 500 years of history…
Hengrave Hall is a Tudor manor house and was the seat of the Kitson and Gage families from 1525-1887, both having Catholic links. Hengrave has links to Queen Mary I, madrigalist John Wilbye, composer Edward Johnson, King James II, lawyer and antiquarian John Gage and Queen Elizabeth I who stayed here from 27 to 30 August 1578. In 1895 it was bought by Sir John Wood and on his death sold to the Religious of the Assumption, who ran a convent school, Hengrave Community of Reconciliation, until 1974. Beside it is the only medieval church, St John Lateran ('Church of the Reconciliation'), in Suffolk still to host worship of the Catholic Church.  Hengrave was later sold in 2005 to the current owners who converted it into private housing and an event venue.
